Laboratory Research Assistant, University of Maryland School of Dentistry

October 06, 2021 11:04 AM | Anonymous

(210001DJ) A Laboratory Research Assistant Position is immediately available in the Scott Lab at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dentistry (SOD) in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis. The lab studies the role(s) of lipids (engineered or native) in the early innate immune response with an aim to alleviate conditions linked to uncontrolled inflammation. The funded project joins elements of neuroimmunology and pain biology and will test new ways to control pain through immunomodulation. This Research Assistant will participate in exciting and diverse aspects of the project: 1) biochemical extraction, purification, and structural characterization of glycolipids; 2) assisting with rodent behavioral modeling and colony maintenance; 3) exploration of molecular mechanisms of pain using basic techniques such as ELISA, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and qRT-PCR. The ideal candidate will have experience in microbiology, immunology, neurobiology, biochemistry, or related areas with some documented experience in the techniques listed here. While previous experience working with rodents in a research setting is ideal, willingness to be trained on and work with these models is a requirement. This position will be a critical member of a collaborative, dynamic team and must have good oral and written communication skills and will be expected to be self-motivated to learn and perform independently.
