Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a Mass Spectrometry (Postdoctoral Associate) for program development to join the Material and Analytical Sciences department located at our Ridgefield, CT. facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Compile and analyze data of small organic molecules using Mass Spectrometry,
- Interpret EI, APCI and ESI MS and MS/MS fragmentation spectra.
- Mass Spectrometry identification of trace levels of small organic molecules that may result from process impurities, degradation products, or metabolites.
- Design and train neural networks to model components from Mass Spectrometry data. This will involve curating training sets from experimental data.
- Assist in data collection and processing of Mass Spectrometry data as required.
- Document and manage code developed using standard source control methods.
- Research methods to scale training and use of neural networks on multiple nodes in high performance computing environments.
- Develop, document and maintain new and existing MS prediction software.
- Write protocols, methods and technical reports; provide scientific interpretation of results and maintain a detailed record of work performed.
- Contributing author to original manuscripts, posters and presentations; able to present work at external and internal scientific meetings.
- Independently solve complex problems with minimal assistance.
Required Education & Experience:
- Ph.D. in Analytical / Mass Spectrometry with strong background in Artificial Intelligence or similar area of study.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including verification of your past employment, criminal history, and educational background
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Ph.D. in Analytical / Mass Spectrometry with strong background in Artificial Intelligence or similar area of study.
- Familiar with theory and fundamentals of mass spectrometry and ionization methodologies for small organic molecules.
- Experience in characterization of synthetic small organic molecules, natural products, or biomolecules by LC/MS.
- Strong background in theoretical and experimental organic chemistry to propose the origin of unknown components.
- A strong background in Python, C++, or equivalent platform for scientific computing as well as familiarity with general scientific data packages such as NumPy, SciPy, and pandas.
- Versed in modern coding practices for scientific computing, including algorithm design and evaluation, source code management and incorporation of readable documentation and comments.
- Expertise in computational approaches in at least one of the areas related to the research is required, including but not limited to Mass Spectrometry evaluation of metabolites, degradants and impurities, neural network design/ training/ evaluation, high speed computing, image analysis, large dataset analysis, error propagation and statistics.
- Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills; highly organized and efficient record keeping.
- Ability to provide clear reports and scientific direction to management, colleagues and collaborators.
- Experienced collaborating with diverse teams and demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Evidence of a publication record.
